A series of murals will soon decorate the Muskegon landscape. Muskegon, Muskegon Heights and Norton Shores will receive a touch of art on the railroad overpass bridges on Seaway Drive.

For over half century, the overpasses have been just railroad infrastructure but thanks to a crowd funding campaign, the overpasses will now become canvasses. According to the crowd-finding web-site Patroncity.com, The Muskegon Rails Project consists of 4 large murals on 2 CSX railroad bridges. Four artists have been selected to paint the murals beginning in the Spring of 2021.

The painting project began with the Muskegon Rails Project crowd funding program. The Patroncity.com web-site states,

"if the project meets its $50,000 funding goal, your donation will be matched, dollar for dollar, by the MEDC as part of the Public Spaces Community Places match program. Donate today to essentially double your contribution to Muskegon’s public art."

If you'd like to contribute to the art project, you can do so by cash or check. It should be enclosed in an envelope labeled Patronicity - Muskegon Rails Project along with your name and any other necessary information, and directed to the City of Muskegon, 933 Terrace Street, Muskegon, MI 49440.
