I'm told without fail every single year the first time it snows in earnest on a weekday in Grand Rapids will be the worst traffic day of the year. Montreal had one of those days, captured on camera an accident with lots of cars, 2 buses, 1 police cruiser, 1 salt truck, and one big headache.

Snowy Dec 5 morning in Montreal.

That's crazy! I'm from an area where if there is even a little snow, they shut the city down for 24 hours.

I would love to tell you I'm joking.

In my hometown Louisiana it just doesn't snow often enough to justify having more than one salt truck. Literally. One (last time I checked anyway).

So to move to Grand Rapids last year, and to have to drive on compacted snow (as I usually get off after the trucks stop running). I got pretty good at white-knuckling my way home. I only went "off roading" a couple of times.

I recall last winter the first snow storm that caused white out conditions during the evening rush hour (my show). Some 100 cars slid off the side of 131 and they had the whole area shut down. That was actually when I started saying "Other than that, everything is okay." Which lost its zing when it wasn't being said tongue in cheek.

Anyway, I need to throw a couple of sandbags in the back of my truck, because, again in my hometown, you only get a 4x4 truck if you want to intentionally go off-roading in the mud. I didn't have the desire to do that so I got a rear wheel drive truck. Which, is not ideal for snow driving.

Ah well.

Here's hoping we don't 'bump' into each other in the near future.
