It's been 10 years in the making but the day has arrived. NASA's Perseverance Rover will be making its landing on Mars today and what better way to celebrate than with a doughnut (or doughnuts).

NASA launched their rover in July of last year but is expected to land on the planet at 3:55 p.m. ET. According to NASA this is their most advanced robot yet and the objective of the mission is to see if there was any ancient life on Mars plus gather rock and soil samples that could be returned to Earth.

Obviously, today's event is a big deal and in honor of that, Krispy Kreme is selling a limited-edition doughnut today and today only... The Mars Doughnut. It's described as

A Chocolate Kreme-filled doughnut dipped in caramel icing with a red planet swirl and sprinkled with chocolate cookie crumbs.

It really does look like Mars too. Who would've thought a planet could look so tasty? The Mars Doughnut will be available at all their locations, and Krispy Kreme will be giving the special doughnut out for free to those people who signed up for NASA's "Send Your Name to Mars" promotion. All you have to do is show your "boarding pass" that NASA provided you with to get your free doughnut. 11 million people's name took flight with the rover which means 11 million people can get free doughnuts!

Krispy Kreme will also be selling The Mars Dozen, a box that includes six Mars doughnuts and six original glazed.

Perseverance will spend one Mars year exploring (the equivalent of two years on Earth) before it makes its return. NASA will be live-streaming the landing and you can watch it here. Show starts at 2:15 p.m. ET.
