In case anyone needed a reminder... Michigan is still better than Ohio.

This time the evidence comes to us by way of U.S. News and World Report's recently released 2019 Best States Rankings.

And while Michigan is not in the Top 10... well, at least we aren't Ohio.

As Click on Detroit points out, Michigan has actually moved up four spots from 2018, to No. 33.

Where's Ohio? No. 39.

Michigan's scored highest in "Opportunity" with a ranking of 14th. The lowest score was in "Education", coming it at No. 37.

To determine its ranking U.S. News and World report draws on thousands of data points to measure how well states are performing:

In addition to health care and education, the metrics take into account a state’s economy, its roads, bridges, internet and other infrastructure, its public safety, the fiscal stability of state government, and the opportunity it affords its residents.

More weight was accorded to some state measures than others, based on a survey of what matters most to people. Health care and education were weighted most heavily. Then came state economies, infrastructure, and the opportunity states offer their citizens. Fiscal stability followed closely in weighting, followed by measures of crime & corrections and a state's natural environment.

So who are in the top (and bottom) five?

2. New Hampshire
3. Minnesota
