A Tiki-bar in the Cheshire Village Business District is getting a makeover.

MLive reports that Citizen on Plainfield Ave NE is closed as of Friday, September 28 for renovations and has plans to open in the spring with a new concept.

The restaurant and bar was originally set to close to repair a leaky roof. The owner Rachel Lee is also using it as an opportunity to rebrand.

Citizen's current menu features Hawaiian, Polynesian, and Indonesian - Inspired dishes.

According to MLive, Lee said,

It was a hit with some patrons, but ultimately the concept didn't 'take-off'. We want to be a neighborhood gathering place. With our menu, it's a little too specialty."

The eatery will re-open with a new menu and a new name.

According to GR Mag, Citizen opened in December of 2017.

Lee posted a notice to Citizen's Facebook page:

Hey friends... Due to unforeseen needed construction on our roof before winter sets in, this will be our last week open. We’d like to thank all of our wonderful teammates, patrons, vendors, & community for the support. We will reopen at a later date with some amazing big changes to be a new go-to spot in our wonderful Creston neighborhood. For those with gift cards, you can use them when we reopen or please contact rachel@citizengr.com for more information. Come catch your favorite tiki drinks & menu items this week, we’d love to see you! With gratitude, Rachel Lee & Citizen Team
