So the Mayans were wrong. The world did NOT end on December 21st. Duh! We are all still here. But maybe the Mayans are off, but could science be closer? Could the world be ending in 2040?

More than likely, no. Scientists have recently discovered an asteroid will NOT hit the Earth in 2040. When, we dodged THAT bullet. MSNBC reports in "Good news confirmed: Asteroid won't hit Earth in 2040" that the "2011 AG5" asteroid wont make it in 28 years. How they can tell that far in advance is amazing.

"New observations of the asteroid 2011 AG5 now give astronomers complete confidence that the 460–foot-wide (140-meter-wide) space rock won't hit Earth in the year 2040. When it was discovered last year, scientists said that 2011 AG5 had a 1-in-500 chance of impact with our planet"

I wonder what a 460 foot wide rock hitting the Earth would do. Would it just hit in the ocean (more than likely) or if hit land, would it throw the Earth off its axis? Thank God for a few more years we don't have to worry! Whew!
