One To Go! Watch Miguel Cabrera Crank Home Run #499
Miggy is now just one swat away from the immortal 500 homer milestone, with one road game to go before coming home for the weekend.
Cabrera took a 1-2 pitch from Matt Harvey of the Baltimore Orioles and smacked it into the left-center field seats at Camden Yards to notch his 499th career home run.
It was Cabrera’s 12th home run of the season and now, every single Cabrera at-bat becomes must-watch, just like they were during his Tigers prime.
Miggy is attempting to become just the 28th person in Major League baseball history to join the 500 home run club.
Cabrera also added a pair of singles to his round tripper to reach 2950 career hits, just 50 shy of the 3000 hit milestone. He would be only the 33rd person to reach that milestone and only the seventh to reach both 3000 hits and 500 home runs.
Meanwhile, the Tigers defeated the Orioles 5-2 to get within just four games of evening their record at .500, but got some bad news from their outfield last night.
Niko Goodrum came up limping after hitting a double and was pulled from the lineup, becoming the third outfielder in two days to be put on the injured reserve list.
Akil Baddoo and Derek Hill collided the night before while going after a fly ball and both were forced out of action. The Tigers called up Jacob Ronson from their Toledo farm team to help out in the interim.
The Tigers have one more game in Baltimore before returning home to face the Cleveland Indians this weekend. Which means if he doesn't blast out #500 tonight, he has a shot to do it before some expected big crowds at Comerica Park in Detroit. Weather for the weekend series is expected to be perfect if you're up for a road trip.
