WOODTV reports that over 1,200 people ran in the Runway 5k Saturday at Gerald R Ford Airport, proving once again, that West Michigan loves to run/walk!

This year’s Runway 5k was the first time the event has happened since 2003 when the airport hosted the event for their 40th anniversary.  Saturday’s event benefited Make-A-Wish Michigan.

According to WOODTV, the 5k Run/Walk went from cargo facilities went through a tunnel and around by the fire station.  The actual finish line was on one of the runways with the other two runways still open for flight traffic. How cool would that be!?

The airport posted on their Twitter page that Andy Roersma won the race on Saturday, and crossed the finish line arms out like an airplane.
