Power Outage in Grand Rapids

UPDATE: Power was restored just after 6 pm on Saturday for most customers.

Power has gone out to most of downtown Grand Rapids and the northwest side of the city. Approximately 7,400 customers are without power, including WFGR.

The power went out about 3:30 pm. Consumers Energy is estimating that power should be back on by 6:30 pm Saturday evening.

Traffic lights in the downtown area are not working. The Grand Rapids Police Department says the outage is NOT affecting 911 or any other emergency services.

Consumers Energy is reporting that the problem is with a 46,000-volt line but are unsure at this point what caused the problem.
