Prom and Car Money Supports West Michigan Food Pantry

In our unprecedented pandemic, food insecurity has been growing in large numbers. Food pantry's are trying to answer the need but it's overwhelming. If you're a high school senior, and you recognize the problem, what do you do? Start a food pantry, of course.

WOODTV8 reported that Autumn Fitchett, a Zeeland East graduating senior decided that there was no time like the present to act. “There’s a lot of people out there that need help and need people to reach out to them. Instead of like worrying about prom or the senior all-nighter, it’s just better to help.”

So she took money earmarked for a prom that was not to be, and some beginning savings for a car, nearly $500, and started her project.

Community Action of Allegan County, also known as CAAC heard about it and asked if she wanted to help, “So then I stayed up and made 160 snack bags for them,” she said. The bags went to homebound senior citizens!

Fitchett said she hopes to continue with the pantry after the pandemic is over. Neighbors have started donating items or money to help support it.
