Michigan's Marijuana Regulatory Agency announced Wednesday that pot will be available from licensed agencies as early as December 1.

Most estimates said pot wouldn't be available for recreational use until early 2020, and the earliest estimate was January 1, but now several dealers are ready to roll and will be in business in just a few weeks on December 1, 2019.

No word yet on whether any West Michigan pot dealers will be ready to go on that early date, although one shop in Muskegon has indicated they may be ready.

Exclusive Brands in Ann Arbor is the first to say they will be up and rolling on the new early date. It's owner, Omar Hishmeh told FOX-2 News Detroit, "We're anticipating it's going to be very busy and there's going to be a real positive response especially being here in Ann Arbor."

The state starting taking applications for recreational marijuana licenses Nov. 1. And a spokesman for MRA says they should begin issuing licenses around Thanksgiving.

The state Marijuana Regulators say 12 businesses will get the green light to go on December 1. Only 22 communities thus far have approved marijuana businesses to sell in their communities. Grand Rapids and Muskegon are among them.
