The weather promises to be pretty good for swimming on the Lake Michigan shoreline this weekend, but the conditions will once again be challenging. Have fun, but respect the Lake!

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Lake Michigan beaches on Saturday for Allegan, Ottawa, Muskegon and Oceana Counties.  Strong southerly winds will build waves and strong currents along the lakeshore, making swimming difficult.  The advisories run through Saturday evening.

Conditions for swimming will be fine Friday and Sunday.

The conditions Saturday will be particularly tricky on the south sides of piers in Grand Haven and South Haven. The conditions could produce rip currents, which could pull swimmers out to deep water.

It doesn't mean you can't go swimming, you should, but the cold water temperatures and high winds mean you need to respect the Lake and be aware of where you're going and what your skill level is, or this could happen to you.
