After a delay due to warm weather, the skating rink at Rosa Parks Circle will officially open for the season December 1.

Sunny Skies Delayed The Opening Of The Skating Season

Usually, the skating season downtown at Rosa Parks Circle opens up Thanksgiving weekend, but a warm spell and sunny skies delayed the re-opening of the rink until this weekend.

The rink will open officially on Thursday, December 1 at 10:00am, according to the Rosa Parks Circle Skating Facebook page.

The rink will be resurfaced every two hours.

Our skate times for December 1 will be as follows:
Skating, 10:00 am - 11:30 am
(ice resurfacing, 11:30 am - 12:00 pm)
Skating, 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
(ice resurfacing, 1:30 - 2:00 pm)
Skating, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
(ice resurfacing, 3:30 - 4:00 pm)
Skating, 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
(ice resurfacing, 5:30 - 6:00 pm)
Skating, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
(ice resurfacing7:30 - 8:00 pm)
Skating, 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

The new opening date comes just in time for the City's annual Christmas Tree lighting festivities which will be held this Friday, December 2 at 5:00pm, with a packed lineup scheduled:

This year’s event includes:
- Free s’mores from the City of Grand Rapids Parks & Recreation + Friends of Grand Rapids Parks
- Free hot chocolate from GRPD
- Homeless Outreach Team will be taking winter clothing donations (new or gently used adult coats, jeans, boots, gloves, etc.)
- Entertainment featuring the Girls Choral Academy, Golden Tiger Kung Fu Academy, Edelweiss Club of GR Choir, The Salvation Army Brass Band, WMU Ice Skaters, and the Grand Rapids Sled Wings Adaptive Hockey!
- Cultural booths highlighting how holidays are celebrated around the world! The Mexican Heritage Association will be present with a craft for all to take home, the Edelweiss Club of Grand Rapids will warm you up with some traditional gluhwein & hot cocoa, and the Grand Rapids Asian-Pacific Festival will be serving up hot tea and traditional snacks!
