Saugatuck Named Best Summer Weekend Escape by USA Today and 10 Best

A contest held by USA Today’s 10 Best website has named Saugatuck the Best Summer Weekend Escape in the U.S.

Twenty destinations, each within 150 miles of a major metropolitan area, competed against each other for the title including Sedona, Ariz.; Lafayette, La.; and Hollywood, Fla.

With Saugatuck is a popular getaway on Lake Michigan in West Michigan just south of Holland.

While not your typical beach destination, Saugatuck, on the shores of Lake Michigan, offers a sun-filled summer escape, complete with giant sand dunes, numerous B&Bs, art galleries and excellent antique shopping nearby.

Growing up in Allegan, I lived not too far from Lake Michigan. My family always hit up Saugatuck after a day on the beach.

I love visiting the little shops like Swell Times and enjoying dinner on the deck of The Mermaid.
