It's an understatement to say we have never seen anything like this (COVID-19) before, but, we have never seen anything like this before! Show of hands how many would hope to never see anything like this again! I thought so!

Cases of COVID-19 and deaths are rising at an alarming rate, and the State of Michigan's Health Department and the Governor have issued a 3-week pause, asking all of us to take the pandemic seriously to "bring down the curve."

The largest health system in West Michigan, Spectrum Health, is urging, pleading, begging I might say, all of us in the region to "comply" with the COVID-19 emergency order issued yesterday.

Here is Spectrum Health's response to the pause:

"As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise at an alarming rate and hospital admissions surge, Spectrum Health urges Michigan residents to comply with the new three-week emergency epidemic orders from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Doing so will help ensure that Spectrum Health has the capacity to treat COVID-19 patients as well as those with other conditions requiring immediate attention, such as heart attacks or car crash injuries. We join health systems throughout the state in asking everyone to do their part now to slow the spread and ensure we can care for our patients and communities."

Yes, there are those who think their rights are being violated and they don't have to do anything they don't want to do. But in my family we have had several cases of COVID-19, some mild, but some very severe. Fortunately everything turned out okay, but it was a bit touch and go, so I take it very seriously. I want to protect not only myself, my family and loved ones, but all of you. I will wear my mask even though I'm so tired of it. I will wash my hands over and over, and I will socially distance as well as I can. Thanksgiving and Christmas will be very lonely this year, but, it will only be for this year. I want to make sure there is a next year!
