Small businesses and venues that have been affected by Covid-19 can apply for grants starting today. The Michigan Strategic Fund approved two new grant programs for a total of $58.5 million in relief for Michigan small businesses and live event venues.

WWMT reports to qualify for a grant, small businesses must have between 1 and 100 employees. Businesses must have capitol to support payroll expenses, rent, mortgage, utilities, and demonstrate income loss due to the pandemic.

For a live entertainment venue to qualify for a grant, you must be located in Michigan, produce or present live music, show at least 33% of 2019 gross revenues from the sale of tickets for live music or entertainment or get at least 70% of their revenue through cover charges or ticket sales. Plus the venue must have less than 30 full time employees.

It's a very short window to apply for the grants. The Michigan Small Business Survival Grant application period will be three days from 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, until noon Friday, Jan. 22. The Michigan Stages Survival Grant application period is from 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, through noon, Jan. 28.
