Finally! We have SOMETHING to do this summer LOL. I was starting to give up hope considering all of the things we look forward to in West Michigan have been cancelled.

Studio Park in Downtown Grand Rapids announced that they will be hosting outdoor movies and concerts twice a week beginning next week. And it's all going to be social-distant friendly!

Celebration Cinema is hosting the movie portion called "Sunset Cinemas" every Wednesday and the Listening Room is hosting the concerts called "Listening Lawn" on Thursday's. They will all take place in the piazza (that lawn space in front of the theater).

The movie lineup is already set for the next three weeks:

  • July 15: Yellow Submarine
  • July 22: Baby Driver
  • July 29: Parasite

I haven't seen the other two but I definitely recommend Parasite. Not only did it win four Academy Awards but made Oscars history by becoming the first non-English language film to win 'Best Picture.'

Movie tickets cost $5/ticket and must be purchased on Celebration Cinema's website or app ahead of time.

Listening Lawn currently has two lineups booked:

  • July 23: Luke Winslow-King
  • July 30: Asamu Johnson & The Associates of the Blues

Concert tickets will be available here.

The lawn opens at 6 p.m. and all shows and movies begin at 8 p.m.

And before you even ask, yes, booze will be available! One Twenty Three Tavern will have an outdoor bar set up with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase. You can also bring a small cooler if you wish to bring snacks.

As far as safety goes, the lawn will be divided into sections to fit 4 people. Something to keep in mind is you must purchase all 4 tickets for the section even if you don't have 4 in your group. According to the FAQ section,

We're doing this to allow for the most number of people to attend, while also keeping everyone appropriately distanced and our total capacity within the latest State guidelines.

Lawn chairs instead of blankets are also recommended.

Studio Park plans to announce a further line up of films and concerts in the weeks ahead.
