Sullivan Field To Host Ballpark Jam This Weekend

The Friday night event will be a fund raiser to help restore the facility.

The old ball park on Valley Avenue (It was formerly known as Valley Field) has been called "Grand Rapids' Wrigley Field", because it's snugly fit into a residential neighborhood, and now you can come out to get some great entertainment and help raise money for the park's restoration at the same time.

Ballpark Jam will feature Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers, a Michigan based jam band, for lack of a better term, who pride themselves as having 'Dad dance moves' and being a 'a '90s band for a modern age'.

On their web site, they promise:

If you'll only let them, they will shake the dust from your wildest expectations. They will roar into your life with rapturous frequencies, exuberant tone, and a joyfulness of purpose that has truly become a rare sight on stage. Join them in their celebration, and they will take you on a never-ending journey to a place you'll never be able to describe in words.

That sounds like a good time to me.

Also featured at Friday's Ballpark Jam will be local bands The Hacky Turtles, Groove Ground and the Legal Immigrants.

Tickets are available at the Ballpark Jam web site, and some of the proceeds will go to the restoration fund, which will continue to make the old ballpark presentable. They've done some outstanding work thus far.

It looks from the web site, that these events may be a regular attraction if they do well, so come on out!

And if music's not your thing, Sullivan Field has also been hosting some comedy shows at the stadium called "Pik-Nik With Comedy". The next one is slated for September 10, the following Friday and will feature outstanding local comedians, Adam Degi, Sydney Smith, Carl Sobel, Matt Cook, Kaira Williams and Ricarlo Williams-Winston.
