The Rockford and Comstock Park communities accumulated more than $7 million during the 2015 summer season, thanks to visitors to the Rogue River watershed area, according to a study by Grand Valley State University faculty and Trout Unlimited.

The craziness of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the holiday shopping season is being offset today by Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to take a break from shopping and help local organizations to raise money. Many groups in West Michigan are holding special Giving Tuesday events today.

Film took on a new role at ArtPrize this year with its first annual film competition ArtPrize OnScreen: Presented by Waterfront Film Festival.  The winners of ArtPrize OnScreen were announced Friday night. Learn more about the winners and view the trailers.

ArtPrize has grown and evolved since its first year, always making changes and adjustments along the way. ArtPrize Executive Director Christian Gaines has indicated that more changes are being considered after seeing the first two-time Grand Prize winner at ArtPrize.

The winners of ArtPrize Seven were announced tonight at The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. Two $200,000 Grand Prizes were awarded. The Public Vote winner was Loveless PhotoFiber's "Northwood Awaking." The Jury Award winner is Kate Gilmore's "Higher Ground."

Pamela Alderman's "Hometown Hero" honors the memory of Army Spc. Eric T. Burri. Burri was 21 years old when he gave his life in 2005 while serving in Bagdad. Visitors to the ArtPrize Seven entry are invited to interact by writing the name of their personal hero on the flag.

Julie Green's "The Last Supper" is at Kendall College of Art and Design/Fed Galleries @ KCAD for ArtPrize Seven. The entry shows plates with paintings of death row inmates' last meal requests.

Fred Cogelow's "Greatest Generation/Beta Team/November" at Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum has advanced to the Public Vote Final Round at ArtPrize Seven. Cogelow explains how he got into wood carving and what the art form means to him.

‘T-Rex', the story of Flint-native and Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa “T-Rex” Shields will play for free on Saturday, October 3 at ArtPrize Seven. Seats will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis at Michigan House at 40 Pearl Street NW.

Take one step into First (Park) Congregational at ArtPrize Seven and Jim Triezenberg's "Dino-Zar" will have a smile on your face. The bicycle has been 30 years in the making. It includes dozens of gadgets and moving parts, a geiger counter, running water, refrigerator and more.

When you visit ArtPrize as a family, minimizing walking and avoiding crowds takes on a new importance. First (Park) Congregational at 10 E Park Place NE provides a good starting point. More importantly, the venue has a lot of entries that will grab the interest of kids.
