Well, to be fair, it's off-off-local Election Day! Still, important drain commission-type and -like decisions will be made. Actually that's not far off, but actually some important things are being voted on today.

As it's the 20th Whitecaps home opener tonight, let's go back 5 more years, to 1989. The elder Bush was President, we didn't have to eat broccoli, and the World Series was interrupted by the San Francisco earthquake. And a little baseball movie was released on April 7.

Flooding in Michigan Rivers, including the Grand River through Grand Rapids, is expected to get get worse in the next 72 hours. One to three inches of new rain is expected to send flood stages well above normal levels by the weekend. The area has already experienced above average rainfall totals, combined with average winter snowfall totals, swelling the Grand in many places.

Watch out! It's always the way it is. In the national media (Networks, The Weather Channel) when WE get a foot of snow, it's a "little storm over the Great Lakes". But when that storm hits the East Coast...STOP! The entire world has to hear EVERY little detail like the planet is close to blowing up. No, no media bias here!

I'm here to tell you, this was one of the hottest summers I can ever remember. Sure we complain about the Michigan weather often, since it's SO lovely and average. (Please note the dripping sarcasm) But really, like for real, this has been one of the hottest summers ever in West Michigan.

Welcome to Tax Day 2012, Grand Rapids Style. It used to be in good ol' days, the Post Office would stay open til Midnight, with postal workers out at the curb so last minute citizens could toss their completed return into a mail cart right up until midnight. The American spirit of paying taxes and waiting til the last minute was en vouge! Nowdays, not so much.
