It truly is the end of an era. The Pontiac Silverdome, former home of the Detroit Lions and Pistons, is set to be imploded on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at approximately 8:30 a.m.

The Silverdome opened in 1975, and served as the home of the Lions until 2001 when they moved to Ford Field. The Detroit Pistons also called it home from 1978 until 1988. It also was home to Super Bowl XVI in 1982, where the San Francisco 49ers beat out the Cincinnati Bengals 26-21.

The building has sat vacant since the Lions moved to Ford Field. The roof was ripped off in 2013.

It's unknown what will become of the grounds where the Silverdome currently stands. In a press release, Pontiac mayor Deirdre Waterman said, "The City of Pontiac is ready to work with any developers who want to optimize the potential of this property."
