It's time for the first report of the most popular baby names of 2020 so far.

Now, this isn't the official list as released by the Social Security Agency (SSA) each year.  The 2019 report was actually released late this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and you can check it out here.

The list we have for 2020 is more like a preview of what the most popular baby names will be once it is official.  This list comes from BabyCenter.com and is based off of over 520,000 ne baby names submitted by parents to the website.  One interesting thing that BabyCenter.com does in their list is combines names that sound the same but are spelled differently like Steven and Stephen.  This gives a better idea into each names overall popularity and is something that the SSA doesn't do.

And now that we know where this list comes from, let's get to the actual list.  First, let's look the the most popular girl names so far for 2020.

Most Popular Girl Names Of 2020

  1. Sophia
  2. Olivia
  3. Riley
  4. Emma
  5. Ava
  6. Isabella
  7. Aria
  8. Aaliyah
  9. Amelia
  10. Mia

According to the BabyCenter.com list, Sophia is the most popular name among the website's users for the 11th year in a row.  But, according to the SSA's 2019 report, Sophia was only the 4th most popular name in the entire United States last year and Olivia was the most popular.  That's one reason why the list from BabyCenter is more of a preview of the most popular names.

OK, so now let's get to the most popular boy names of 2020.
