A long haul trucker recently went onto the Michigan sub/reddit and paid our state's drivers a compliment, saying he's been all over the nation and Michigan drivers are the best.

But it's Michigan, and we don't know how to take a compliment do we?

The post began with a simple headline: 'Dear Michigan, Keep Up The Good Work!'

What followed was a heart felt love letter to a state whose residents seemed to 'get it' when it came to driving. (After all, we invented the damn car!)

I work all over the U.S and Canada and I drive a fair bit. Of all the places I've been, Michigan has the best highway drivers I've yet seen. You use the left lane for passing only, to the point of being religious about it, you're always checking your mirrors and even when the highways are sort of busy, everything is running fast and smooth. I was passing through from Chicago to London and noticed this almost immediately. With the exception of some asshole lady from Ohio sitting in the left lane fucking all your hard work up, it was one of the most pleasant highway drives I've had (even then, the Michigan drivers were reticent to pass on the right and waited for miles until they gave up and went around).

I just wrote a post in r/washington because they have quite possibly the most annoying drivers in the country. I thought I'd also share my positive opinions of Michiganders.

What followed wasn't a lot of 'hey, thanks!' (although to be fair there was a little of that), instead most of the comments seemed to be Michiganders saying 'Are you nuts?' and then proceeding to point out every driving flaw in our state.

Michigan?...as in the USA? I have to drive in the right lane because all of the people going 10-20 mph below the posted speed limit are all in the left lane.

I've only driven in the midwest and the east coast, but I honestly think driving in SE Michigan is the worst.

Local trucker here, this statement could be the most hilarious thing I've ever read. You've got to be kidding me! Michigan drivers are god awful, they don't know how to merge, they will aggressively tailgate, the list will go on and on.

People were particularly hard on West Michigan drivers:

I spend most of my time up and down West Michigan and Grand Rapids. The Muskegon area is especially terrible. I've had more close calls there than anywhere else.
