It hasn't been that good for Michigan sports teams over the past few years, and Tuesday may have killed any hope for the future.

The Lions started the bad day by trading safety Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks for a future fifth round draft pick.

While Diggs has seen his talents diminish over the past year, he was still a mainstay in a pretty solid Detroit Lions defensive back field. Teammate Darius Slay tweeted that the move was BS, and the move reeks of the front office giving up on this season already.

The day got worse when the top ranked Michigan State Spartans announced that star player Josh Langford will miss a good portion of the season with a foot injury that has plagued him since last December. Coach Tom Izzo says Langford will be reevaluated in January.

Langford was considered a key cog in State's hopes for a national championship. The good news here is that Langford has plenty of time before the NCAA Tournament in March, and the Spartans are very deep at his position.

And last, but not least, The Detroit Pistons announced they will be starting the season without the services of star forward Blake Griffin, who has been hobbled by knee and hamstring injuries. Griffin is expected to return to the tam in late November.

Add to this mess the Red Wings are off to poor start, and Tigers fans are forced to watch four former Tiger pitchers playing key roles in the World Series, and Michigan sports fans have good reason to be depressed through most of the cold winter.

Heads up, kids, the spring is not far away and the Tigers can't be any worse than they were last year, can they? Don't answer that.
