U of M Works to Restore Lake Sturgeon Natural Habitat

University of Michigan researchers are part of a multi-institution team working to restore lake sturgeon, which were once common in the Great Lakes, by building rock spawning reefs in two Detroit-area rivers. I'm sure there's more science going on that what meets my untrained eye. To me it seems they're dumping tons of rocks in the river to give lake sturgeon a sweet love shack. Also, good hiding spot from the other critters that eat the baby sturgeon.

It's painfully obvious I'm not a marine biologist.

But it doesn't take a fish doctor to know you need a nice place to call home and if these acres of reefs give the lake sturgeon a nice place to make babies then right on.
