A committee called Decriminalize Nature Michigan is planning to collect petition signatures for a ballot proposal that could go before Michigan voters one day. Right now they are simply asking our state elected officials to pass a bill. The proposal would be to basically decriminalize naturally occurring psychedelics. Naturally occurring psychedelics include psilocybin (magic) mushrooms, peyote cactus and ayahuasca just to name a few.

According to MLive, the same group last year helped convince Ann Arbor City Council to similarly decriminalize certain natural psychedelic drugs, meaning police are now instructed not to spend taxpayer money or resources on investigating possession or private production for noncommercial use.

Personally, I would love to see something like this get passed. I think it's long overdue and complete crap that the government can tell us that something that grows naturally on earth is illegal to ingest into our bodies. I know I sound like a total hippie, but that's how I feel. Think about it though, since the 60s people have been thrown in jail countless times over this and it's not right in my opinion.

I think we're still a few years out from something like this happening but I think the conversation is important and the legalization of marijuana in Michigan was a step in the right direction.

Last year Oregon became the first state to both decriminalize psilocybin and also legalize it for therapeutic use. The use, sale, and possession of psilocybin in the United States, despite state laws, is illegal under federal law.
