Having a baby is always a life changing experience. Imagine having a baby on the side of a road! That's what happened to one West Michigan couple.

This past Thursday, Hannah Houghton, who was just shy of being 35 weeks pregnant went into labor at 2: 30am. Her, and the baby's dad, Kaleb Pluchinsky, got into their car to head to the hospital. However, the baby wasn't waiting. Hannah told Fox 17,

"My contractions were two and half minutes apart, so I was like, ‘We’ll make it, we’ll make it. "

They did not make it all the way to the hospital before the baby came. Within minutes of turning onto I-96W from Plainfield Avenue on the city’s northeast side, Houghton told the baby's dad to pull over. Houghton’s water had broken and she could feel the baby coming. Kaleb pulled the car over and went into extreme daddy mode. He delivered the baby right there. The couple states that the baby was breech too.

After delivering the baby, Houghton and Pluchinsky say they rushed to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. They credit Kent County dispatchers and hospital staff for keeping them calm and reassured and helping them make it through.

The new mom says of her little girl,

"She’s feisty. She’s very expression-ative with her face; like, if she doesn’t like something you’ll know cause her whole face just scrunches up. She’s very boisterous. She’ll make little noises and then, she’s a cuddle.”

The baby was named Sophie. Doctors expect her to come home some time in May.
