Road construction in West Michigan could last longer than planned due to a labor dispute between road workers and construction companies.

According to WOOD TV, the labor dispute is statewide but this could really impact the projects right here in West Michigan.

The workers' union and and owners of construction companies are not seeing eye to eye on a contract that expired back in June.

If the new contract is not signed by Monday night, many construction sites will cease to operate and that will add to an already long construction season.

This is a chance to grab some of our own destiny and to say no, money's important but it's not as important as knowing the roads in this state and the infrastructure's going to get done right, by the right people using the right tools.

Mckernan also said he thinks this will have effect on federal highways like US-131 and I-96.
