Good news for anyone wanting to beat the heat this next week, WOOD-TV reports that the Kent County Sherrif's office has lifted the recommendation to stay off the river.

In the past few weeks, they've had to rescue people several times from the Thornapple because of the elevated water level and high currents, along with downed trees making the river dangerous.

WOOD-TV says the sheriff's department still recommends you still practice safety if getting on the river and to use appropriate safety gear for staying safe with the stronger than normal currents.
