The original Taco Bell location in Downey, California is about to be bulldozed to the ground soon. Help save it by tweeting!

The American Mexican fast food joint is using the "SaveTacoBell" hashtag on Twitter to try and raise awareness of the potential tearing down of the cultural landmark.

"The fast food chain started in Downey in 1962, but that location has not been a Taco Bell franchise for many years. Just the same, Taco Bell's social media team responded to reports about the restaurant's future on Twitter with the hashtag "#SaveTacoBell." Fans of the taco corporation have echoed that call by repeating the message on their own Twitter accounts.

The location of the nation´s first Taco Bell in Downey may be demolished. Taco Bell doesn´t own it but it´s starting a #savetacobell campaign just the
same. There is no certainty the building will be torn down.

At this point, City Hall reports there are no permit requests to demolish the restaurant or to develop anything new on the site. There's also no word from the landlord on any plans that may be forthcoming.

That makes it hard to determine whether the former Taco Bell building will end up a city landmark like the world's oldest operating McDonald's restaurant on Lakewood Boulevard in Downey, disappear the way the once-popular Johnnie's Broiler did, or undergo another fate, such as being moved to another site."

Everytime I see an old McDonalds or Pizza Hut I wonder how long it had been since that business was thriving. Hope the people in Downey can save this landmark!
