Hey, I’m the “new guy” here at 100.5 The River. We’ll get to hang out for part of your workday and the drive home while you’re listening to Today’s Best Mix without the rap. Some people asked “why would you move HERE?” when I started. I answer that question with disbelief and realize that people in GR simply don’t realize what a great city they have. Grand Rapids is just a fantastic city. The people, the downtown, the festivals, the philanthropy of our ‘famous families’ … the list goes on and on. The VIBE of this city is just incredible. Those who say “why would you move HERE?” clearly don’t realize how crappy most other similar sized cities are compared to GR. We moved here from the vibrant and clean city (#sarcasm) of Toledo, OH where I was the Operations Manager for six radio stations. Before that, I was on-air or programming stations in Philadelphia, New York City, Milwaukee, Madison, Cedar Rapids (Iowa) and Waterloo (Iowa). My wife and I met in Madison and were married four days after 9/11. We have two “furry kids” named Ollie (yellow lab/bassett/corgi) and Chester (bassett). I’m also the Program Director for Channel 95-7 and 100.5 The River, so if you have any comments, suggestions or complaints (I welcome compliments, too), just email or call me!

Don't get too comfortable with the idea of snow not falling from the sky.

Saturday Afternoon Power Outage in SE Grand Rapids
From our friends at FOX17.
Consumers Energy says roughly 2,500 people are without people in SE Grand Rapids because of a "circuit lockout." They hope to have power back on by 2pm.

Think Of Your Dogs On July 4th
I wanted to start by making a snarky comment about horrible and/or unintelligent dog owners, but realized that maybe some dog owners really, truly, honestly don't know.
FIREWORKS ARE SCARY TO YOUR DOG.
I've only met one dog in my life who wasn't scared by fireworks, and that's my current basset hound Chester...
Grand Rapids Ranked 79th Smartest Area In The United States
Grand Rapids makes it on a lot of "best of" lists. While we're not near the top on this one, it's still a pretty impressive ranking considering the number of cities and areas they surveyed.

Dog Plays Jenga. Sort Of.
You know all of us here are animal lovers.
Me? I'm more a "dog guy" than a "cat person."
That said, I don't know too many dogs who could do this. This cute little furry person is balancing what appears to be THIRTY-SIX milk bones on his snout...

Memorial Day Parades – Kent and Ottawa County
Here it's Memorial Day Weekend. Many people view it as an extra day off, a day to grill, a day to have fun in the pool. But remember the true reason of Memorial Day, which is to remember - and give thanks for - the men and women who died serving their country in the Armed Forces...
Rare Planet Show May 24 through May 30
In the next week, a rare occurrence will happen in the night sky. The planets of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury will be low in the sky and tightly grouped, meaning you'll be able to see all of them with the naked-eye. This won't happen again for at least another 12 years.
