September 17, 2012 As I was making my way downtown Sunday, I drove past the BOB and saw something that looked familar. Perhaps you remember back in April when graffiti of former President Gerald Ford appeared on I-196. "I am indebted to no man" was stenciled above a black and white picture of Michigan's only president. Well it seems the Pres is back, this time with the first lady.
It's only a few days until ArtPrize officially opens all across Grand Rapids, but you can already see the city transforming into a massive art gallery. Installations are cropping up on the Urban Bridge, in The B.O.B. parking lot, near the Gerald R. Ford Museum, and countless other places. In the gallery you will find pieces in all the venues mentioned.
ArtPrize features 1,517 entries and 161 venues, but only a limited amount of time to see everything. The 2012 ArtPrize mobile app helps maximize your visits to ArtPrize.
The ArtPrize app makes voting and seeing art easier and faster.
ArtPrize makes September an exciting time in Grand Rapids. Art installations pop up all over the city throughout the entire month. All of that excitement culminates to the top 10 showdown in early October. The top 10 entries can be anything from massive sculptures, to 3D art, to paintings, to pencil drawings. With ArtPrize kicking off on September 19th, let' take a look back at the winners from last year.
ArtPrize counts on the generosity of volunteers to be successful. Hundreds of volunteers have already signed up, but more are needed.
Volunteers fill many jobs, enjoy some perks, and have a lot of fun. The deadline to become a volunteer is Wednesday, September 12.
September 8, 2012 One of the best things about living in Grand Rapids is Artprize. Love it, hate it, or if you are indifferent, it doesn't matter. Artprize gives out community a big shot in the arm, both locally and on a national level. Come on, you swell with a little local pride when you see a story on the Today show or an article in a national magazine about Artprize, don't you? And let's not forget, all the deals that come along with the World's Largest Artprize.
ArtPrize is set to kick off on September 19. Each year the competition brings a few new surprises, among those this year is an entry valued at $25,000. It will be auctioned off to benefit West Michigan charities.
