Every generation has that day: The day something tragic happens that we all remember.

The last three biggies, from my perspective, were Dec. 7, 1941; Nov. 22, 1963; and Sept. 11, 2001.

Never mind that Hawaii wasn't a state yet. We had been attacked in Pearl Harbor, and we were going to war -- first with the Japanese; and then with the Germans and the Italians.

Hell, we would have fought
Panama if they wanted to.

The Greatest Generation got fired up and went out and paved the way for our current freedom and way of life. Think what life would have been like if we DIDN'T win World War II? I'm terrible at German and hate sauerkraut.

Luckily, we didn't have to worry about that. If and or when you see a veteran today, it's as good as any of a time to thank them for protecting us, our families and our way of life.
