Forget a date — what if it were business? If a manager took you out to dinner, and used a coupon, would that bother you? If it were a job interview, would that tell you something about the manager? Can you think of another situation where it’s better to leave the coupon book at home?    Do coupons really a bad thing or just a sign of the time?

The group then went on to produce songs such as “Love Ballad”, “(Every Time I Turn Around) Back in Love Again”, “Concentrate On You”, “Holding On (When Love Is Gone)”, and many others. Soon after the band’s 1980 album Shine On, Jeffrey and Billy Osborne departed to start solo careers. Andre Ray and Leslie Wilson (Formerly of New Birth) were then chosen as lead vocalists their next album Love Magic which produced two more hits, “April Love”, and “Kicking Back”. Leslie Wilson left to continue his solo career and L.T.D. stayed busy in the music industry by recording for small independent record labels, and doing their own personal music projects.

Forget the final three, the ladies have spoken — Phillip “Phillip” Phillips will be your host this evening, your prom king, quarterback and master of the boudoir. Girls upfront love this guy, cheered for him a few too many times during the night’s final performance, and hell, he’s why they’re sitting upfront in the first place. Oh, he also sang ‘We’ve Got Tonight’ by Bob Seger.

The judges have long-worried that Phillips is only capable of crooning off the grid in his Jakob Dylan-cum-John Mayer purr. This was not so with his “best performance of the season” according to Randy, in which Phillips stuck to what he knew; a hushed, faithful version of ‘We’ve Got Tonight,’ where he stayed in the velvety corners, hid in the pockets, winked and nuzzled his way to the finish line.

No big climax, just gliding on air — teaching today’s kids about the tear-inducing power of Seger. And it’s really hard to find the velvety corners in a string-laden piano ballad, dammit.

The band’s next single, “You Are the Woman”, made the Top 10 and the band began touring with Fleetwood Mac, who were at the beginning of their commercial peak. Their next single, “Cinderella”, though it reached the Top 40 and was played extensively on FM radio, did not fare as well on AM radio because of its controversial lyrics which caused feminist groups to pressure the stations to avoid playing it. However, this did not have a lasting effect on the band’s sales.

The group then headed back to Criteria Studios to record their second album, which was to be titled Tropical Nights. They were joined on these sessions by Cuban percussionist Joe Lala (ex-Manassas) and the Memphis Horns. But after hearing the final mix, Atlantic Records decided that the album needed to be reworked. Firefall then redid several songs and added some new ones. The album was renamed Luna Sea and released in July 1977. The revamped LP peaked at #27 on the charts and went Gold less than two months after release. The single from the album, “Just Remember I Love You”, featuring backing vocals by future Eagle Timothy B. Schmit, hit #11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“A Golden Voice: How Faith, Hard Work, and Humility Brought Me From the Streets to Salvation” is a 256-page memoir that “delves deeply into an addiction that tarnished the shiny pipes of a promising radio star,” according to THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH, which describes one story in the book in which WILLIAMS says “he once received a cash gift from his mother to cover the airfare to his father’s funeral, only to skip the service and spend the money on crack cocaine. He got high in front of his young daughter after his estranged wife had finally consented to an unsupervised playground visit. Later, broke and starving, he gobbled a son’s meager supply of baby food.”

Well, it’s small, but it’s something.

The change in garbage and the  weak  housing market mean you will pay less in taxes next year if you live in the city!

Part of the drop in the millage rate is a result in cuts to the refuse tax. The refuse system saw major changes resulting in a drop in cost – sounds good to me!

House values in the city are also contributing to smaller tax bills, but let’s hope that that turns around before too long too. Things are on the upswing.

That puts the average residential tax bill at $372.33, in case you wondered.

According to the article “America’s Best Carousels”, the Public Museums’ carousel was “Built in 1902, this (carousel) is housed in a glass building built over a river, creating the illusion that you’re about to ride into the water. Note the ticket booth as you enter; it’s the original one that debuted with the carousel’s opening.” Only one problem: according to the Museum’s website, the carousel was ACTUALLY built in 1928…Hmmm you would think the research on this woouldn’t be too hard to do. Oh well.

Pretty sweet! Way to go again, GR! Now if we can do something about the Gerald Ford graffiti stuff…

Former ‘Saved by the Bell’ star Lark Voorhies recently surfaced to let fans know what she’s been doing in the days since she left Bayside. She also revealed she’d be open to a ‘Saved by the Bell’ reunion. That’s news that’s hard to b-b-b-beat and we can’t help but root on that possibility.

Here’s why that needs to happen quicker than the time it takes to get a case of food poisoning after eating at The Max.

1. We need to find out whether or not Screech and Violet ever got to second base.

2. Zack Morris set a trend by having what may have been the world’s first cell phone. Aren’t you curious to see if he now uses an iPhone or a Droid?

3. You know you want to hear about the crazy scam Zack pulled to get Slater’s father out of being deployed to Afghanistan.

4. You thought Jessie was excited when she popped too many pills? Imagine how excited viewers will be.

5. If Lisa really is so fashionable, maybe she convinced Screech to stop wearing parachute pants from the rejected MC Hammer collection.

6. We can find out if Jeff is still the manager at The Max. He deserves to stay in that job, the way he treated Kelly. What a slimeball.

7. Admit it – your life will be much better off if you can just once more hear Mr. Belding say, “Hey, hey, hey. What is going on here?”

8. Catfight – Jessie and Kelly versus Tori! Finally!

9. We want to know if Zack patented the “time-out” trick only he seems to have mastered. Out of all his hair-brained schemes, this seems like the best one he could’ve followed up on to make a fortune.

10. Rumor has it Valley is getting a reality show. Bayside can’t let their biggest rival upstage them.

11. ‘The College Years,’ ‘The New Class’… ‘Saved By the Bell’ needs to right its wrongs.

12. It would sure beat a ‘California Dreams’ reunion.

This may seem a little extreme. I think it is. But the bigger picture is, when did we become a world of texters instead of actually talking to others? That’s what disturbs me.

During the week of September 13 — that was the week the song returned to No. 1 on the Billboard country chart, after having been nudged out for a week by “Feelins’” by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn — “Rhinestone Cowboy” topped both the country and Hot 100 charts simultaneously. This was the first time a song had accomplished the feat since November 1961, when “Big Bad John” by Jimmy Dean turned the trick.

“Rhinestone Cowboy” was one of six songs released in 1975 that topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Hot Country Singles charts.

A mother’s love know no bounds… or species, it appears. 8-year-old Bailee Shultz was playing in his grandparents’ backyard in Bangor, Michigan when he heard something crying. An investigation turned up a tiny squirrel, less than a week old, who had fallen from it’s nest. They worried the little guy wouldn’t make it. Bailee’s mom, Stephanie, decided to try something. Her cat, Oreo, had just given birth to 5 kittens. What if they put the baby squirrel in with the litter?

The family told MLive that after a day, Bushytail (the squirrel’s new name, given by Bailee) was nursing along with the kittens! They also have seen Oreo licking Bushy like she does the kittens.

So, for now, it looks like Bushytail has a new home with Oreo and her litter.

The family says they do plan to let Bushytail go free when he gets old enough, but they hope he won’t be a stranger. “We’ll try to feed him to keep him around if we can,” Stephanie said.

Turns out Oreo isn’t the first cat to take in a squirrel–  Check out this video of Kit-Kat who became the foster mother to an entire litter of orphaned squirrels!

Here’s our main question: why vodka? There are plenty of other more tasty alcohols that you can inject into your mother’s chocolate. Brandy, for example.

Our secondary question: isn’t giving Gary Busey a syringe, or alcohol, extremely unsafe? Not that we think he’d drink the vodka or use the syringe on himself, it’s just he’s likely to light something on fire with it, or maybe start throwing the syringe around as a dart. Really, Mr. Kimmel, think of the safety of the greater Los Angeles area.

Losing a loved one is never easy. Some of us would pay top dollar to get back a child, a significant other, or a best friend that left us too soon. But what about a dog?

Money is no issue for Edgar and Nina Otto who lost their 11-year-old Golden Labrador, Sir Lancelot, to cancer four years ago. So, how much did the Ottos shell out? $155,000!

This isn’t the first time someone’s doled out serious dough to bring the dead back to life — Anderson Cooper once interviewed a woman who spent $50,000 to bring back her dog. In some states, you could buy a house or houses with that kind of cash the Ottos coughed up.

If you think laying down a house’s worth of greenbacks is excessive, you should know the Ottos have saved the cremains of several pets that have passed. Sir Lancelot just happened to win the cloning lottery because he was missed the most.

Sounds like the makings of a game show — ‘Which Deceased Pet Will Be Cloned?,’ coming to TLC soon!
