The All Star Girls Majors Little League Softball team from Grandville is now undefeated through 17 tournament games and is headed to the World Series championship to face teams from all over the US and the world.

The Grandville Majors (girls 9-12 years old) Little League team clinched the Central Region title this weekend in Indianapolis with a 5-1 win over River Forest, IL.

According to the Grandville Little League web site, Brooklyn Verbeek was hot from the plate for Grandville LL. Verbeek went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. She tripled in the first inning and singled in the fifth inning. Jamie VanderMeer recorded the win for Grandville LL. She allowed one run over six innings. Vander Meer struck out three, walked two and gave up seven hits.

The team has put up a page for donations to help them fund their trip to Portland for the World Series, which kicks off August 10. The Grandville team will take on a team representing the Asia-Pacific region.

“I could not be more proud of my team. These girls fought through each tournament as a cohesive unit to make it to the World Series,” Grandville All-Stars Manager Dave VanderMeer said in a news release. “The only thing that makes me more proud of them winning is the way they care about each other. I can’t wait to see them compete at the World Series.”

“I love playing softball with these girls. I am proud that our team has earned this once in a lifetime experience,” said Ellen Derrer, one of the players on the team. “We can’t wait to represent our community at the Little League Softball World Series.”
