A five-year-old boy from Grandville was allegedly sodomized by some of his classmates who recorded parts of the assaults on a school iPad, WZZM-13 reports.

A federal lawsuit filed this week alleges that the boy was assaulted while attending Century Park Learning Center, the assaults were recorded, and then they were shared with others.

The boy is identified in court documents as "Jimmy Doe". His parents claim that when the abuse was brought up to the school, they turned a blind eye to the situation.

Grandville Public Schools have responded to the lawsuit. In a statement, Superintendent Roger Bearup said that the district can not make any comments on the matter at this time.

WZZM-13 reports that in the complaint, the parents allege that when they went to the school, then-Superintendent Ron Caniff and Assistant Superintendent Scott Merkel told them that if they pressed the issue, it would be their son who would be disciplined because "he was the only child whose genitals were photographed."

Caniff, now the Superintendent of the Kent Intermediate School District, released a statement Thursday, it read, in part:

At the time I was at Grandville Public Schools, there was never any suspicion, suggestion or complaint expressed about inappropriate physical contact between the students involved in this matter, nor did the investigation indicate any concerns in that regard.

The Wyoming Police Department investigated the incidents in 2016, but WOOD-TV8 received a copy of the police report which stated that "Assistant Kent County Prosecutor Vicki Seidl said there would be no prosecution because of the ages of the children involved, even if it were proven true."
