Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin” Covered by Belle & Sebastian [Video]
If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the last few years, it’s that people are never, ever going to get tired of Journey‘s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’.’
Our latest proof comes courtesy of alt-rock veterans Belle and Sebastian, who recently covered the song as part of their work for the Songs for Kids Foundation, an organization that works to “bring music to children’s hospitals and special needs camps through live interactive concerts, hospital bedside performances and our Songs For Kids Records songwriting & recording program.”
It’s a great cause, and one that Songs for Kids addresses through a variety of incredible efforts, including a 2013 tour that brought performances to over 200 children’s hospitals in more than 180 cities — logging 25,000 miles in the process — and the aforementioned Songs for Kids Records, which gives hospitalized children an opportunity to write and record their own original songs. This year, the foundation presents 500 Songs for Kids, in which a variety of artists will volunteer to deliver live performances of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Belle and Sebastian’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin” was performed at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta hospital, and you can hear a snippet of their version via the video embedded above. It’s certainly a very different take on the original, which first cracked the Top 10 in 1981 and has enjoyed new life on the download era thanks in part to a memorable appearance in the ‘Sopranos’ series finale. It’s also been covered repeatedly in recent years by a list of artists that includes Steel Panther and the cast of ‘Glee,’ but next to Journey’s, this version might be our favorite, if only because of who it benefits.
