We've got some good news and some bad news for people living in Kent and Ottawa Counties. First the good news... Kent County has 8th lowest obesity rates among adults in Michigan and Ottawa County has the 5th lowest rate!

Now the bad news... Obesity rates in the state are on the rise and both counties still have over 25% obesity rates in adults. The Center for Disease Control released 10 years of statistics from the last 25+ years and it showed a relatively significant increase in adult obesity.  MLive.com points out that in 1990, Michigan only had an estimated 13% adult obesity rate but, as of 2015, that number has risen to a whopping 31%.

The least obese counties in the state are Washtenaw (24.4%), Oakland (26.3%), Leelanau (26.6%), Grand Traverse (26.8%), and Ottawa (27.6%). The State of Michigan currently ranks 16th in the nation in adult obesity rates.
