A Navy SEAL from Michigan has died after sustaining injuries during physical fitness training Friday at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek – Fort Story in Virginia, according to WTKR.

Special Warfare Operator 1st Class (SEAL) Brett Allen Marihugh, 34, from Livonia died Sunday.

Marihugh and SO1 (SEAL) Seth Lewis were both discovered unresponsive at the bottom of a pool on Friday. Both men were transported to an area hospital where Lewis was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

“We are all deeply saddened by Brett’s passing and would ask for your thoughts, prayers and support for the Marihugh and Lewis family, NSW community, and our friends and teammates at this time,” said Capt. Pete Vasely, Commander, Naval Special Warfare Group TWO.

Capt. Vasely referred to both men as "fierce warriors", saying they were highly respected among their peers. He also stated that they will continue to investigate what occurred in that pool, because they owe it to the men's families as well as the other SEALS.

Marihugh served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003 before joining the Navy in 2006.

Marihugh served with east and west coast-based SEAL teams and earned multiple awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V in support of the global war on terrorism.
