Ted Nugent Celebrates 25th Kamp For Kids, Releases New ‘Never Stop Believing’ Single [Video]
In addition to the upcoming release of his first studio album in more than seven years and the online debut of his new single 'Never Stop Believing,' (embedded above) guitar legend Ted Nugent is also celebrating the 25th anniversary of Ted Nugent Kamp For Kids.
"I started our Kamp in 1989 with a simple goal - to introduce kids to the great outdoors," Nugent says in a press release. "I made a promise to [bow hunter] Fred Bear before he passed away that I would get kids involved. And here we are 25 years later."
Open to children between the ages of 11 and 15, each camp participant is taught proper archery shooting skills, learns about hunter's safety and ethics and survival skills while also participating in nature studies as well as a nature walk. One recent session saw its 100 available slots snapped up shortly after they became available online.
"I've never seen anything like it," says Tim Moran of the Papillion, Nebraska Parks & Recreation department. "We always start taking calls from parents literally months before registration -- which is literally months before the actual event. By far, the Ted Nugent Kamp for Kids is one of the most sought-after programs, by both parents and kids, of any youth event we're involved with."
And though Nugent is not able to visit all of the events associated with his 'Kamp For Kids,' Nugent does make an effort to attend where his schedule permits. In addition to providing some hands-on instruction and warning children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, Nugent has been known to perform some of his popular songs about hunting.
"I take this stuff very personally," he adds. "Our Kamp for Kids matters. It changes young lives for the better..I'm not interested in plaques, praise, banquets or awards. I'm only interested in results. I get all the rocket fuel motivation I need to keep moving forward when a smiling young kid comes up to me at Kamp and says he or she can't wait to go fishing or hunting."
