Muhammad Ali may have passed, but he – or his name – will be making money for many years to come.

According to Forbes Magazine, Ali was worth around $55-million in 2006.

But that was the year when Ali sold off 80% of his stake in the right to license his name. Letting people use his name and likeness brought him between four- and seven-million per year!

So what does this mean? Basically, there’s a lot of stuff out there with Ali’s name and likeness on it. Just last year Under Armour rolled out a ton of shirts and gear with his picture on them. This includes using video, pictures, and audio from his heyday.

What this all comes down to, is that like sex — death sells! Bob Dorfman, Executive Creative Director of Baker Street Advertising, explains that Ali’s death will “spark a significant increase in sales of his branded merchandise and memorabilia."
