Cherry Health Is Installing One Of Grand Rapids’ First Narcan Vending Machines
When it comes to an overdose of any time, minutes and seconds matter. So if you're stuck waiting on an ambulance or emergency personnel of any kind to get to you for help, you may be losing precious life-saving time.
And while experts have said that everyone should carry the most life saving substance on hand, sometimes we find ourselves less than prepared. Or, maybe you're not sure where you can find something to help, Grand Rapid's Cherry Health has found a new solution: Narcan vending machines.
What are narcan vending machines?
Narcan is a life saving substance that can be used to revive someone who is struggling with an overdose. While you can find it at several locations around West Michigan including pharmacies and other stores, sometimes those locations can be hard to get to, or not open at the hours that the kits may be needed.
The vending machines will provide 24-hour access to the free opioid overdose reversal kit, which in turn could save the life of countless West Michiganders.
Where can I find the Narcan vending machines?
Cherry Health has partnered with the Grand Rapids Red Project to install the Narcan vending machines at two locations.
One at the south entrance at Cherry Health’s Heart of the City Health Center located at 100 Cherry Street SE in Grand Rapids.
The second can be found at Cherry Health’s Montcalm Health Center, which is located at 1003 N. Lafayette Street in Greenville. There is also a Narcan vending machine currently at Grand Rapids Project Red's office.
And if someone you know or love is suffering from a substance abuse problem and would like help- there are resources. In Grand Rapids, you can reach out to Cherry Health or call 1-800-662-4357 to find resources in your area.
