John Cusack To Play Brian Wilson In ‘Love and Mercy’ [Video]

On paper, it doesn't sound like it would work, John Cusack playing the Beach Boys enigmatic song writer, Brian Wilson, who suffered from mental illness at what should have been the height of his career.

But after checking out the trailer, it looks like a pretty good film.

The movie, called "Love and Mercy" is due out June 5th, and it chronicles the battles Wilson had with his father, band mates and record producers as he tried to hold true to his genius vision for the band.

Cusack will star as an older version of Wilson, while Paul Dano ("Taking Woodstock", "Little Miss Sunshine") will portray Wilson as a young member of the band.

I'm not going to tell you I'm a huge fan of the Beach Boys, but Wilson's song writing from 1967-1970 is one par with the greats, and "God Only Knows" remains one of the greatest love songs ever written in my book.
