The 1993 film The Sandlot is considered by many to be high on the list of the best baseball movies of all time.

The story features a scene where a baseball autographed by Babe Ruth gets put into play in a game. The kid who stole the ball from his Dad has no idea who Babe Ruth is, much to the chagrin of his teammates, who let him know how important it is.

Now, the New York Yankees have re-created the scene, demonstrating for posterity how bad athletes trying to act can be.

Not sure I love Brett Gardner's portrayal of the bumbling Smalls, but Brian McCann as Ham Porter was pretty stout. I'm on the fence with Jacoby Ellsbury as Squints, too. Maybe he needs a run at Wendy Peffercorn?

Overall, though, it's the effort that counts. There's never a true negative with something like this during the spring.

And now, here's the original from 'The Sandlot' to compare it to.
