For once, guys may actually care about farming and the weather.

More than a week ago, a story broke about how heavy rains have messed up crops of malt-barley in Montana and Idaho.

Malt-barley -- of course -- is an important ingredient in beer. And because the crops are jacked, there could be a shortage, which could lead to an INCREASE in beer prices.

How has this story remained under the radar for a week?

Why isn’t there panic in the streets? Will there be a run on beer? Lines around the block? This could get ugly.

According to the BillingsGazette.com, the panic is being held off by last year's record malt crop in Canada:

"...the 2013 Canadian crop, which was a record size, will probably fill the void from this year’s failure, at least early on."

Things are fine now, but industry experts haven't been able to tell for sure how bad the harvest is going to be because crappy weather is also threatening the North Dakota crop, the third biggest malt producing state.

This could be a nightmare that hits all beer drinkers right in the wallet. Unless you’re a home brewer – then party on, my friend.
