Number crunchers and big brains at Spotify sifted through the data and discovered there’s a “musical midlife crisis” that hits us at age 42. It seems 42 is the age when many of us rediscover the joys of current pop music.

During the teenage years, we embrace music at the top of the charts more than at any other time in our lives.

As we grow older, our taste in music changes. We listen to “our” music, not “the” music.

But then, around age 42 – when we’re most likely to buy the Corvette and start banging the secretary – our music taste comes back to the popular charts.

A desperate last grasp at feeling young again. Pathetic, but true.

Alright middle-aged dudes out there… be honest… Taylor Swift songs make you feel all tingly inside, don’t they?

At the end of the day, music-wise, wherever you peaked in life is where you’re going to stay. Here’s to hoping that wasn’t when Nickelback was crushing it.
