While driving a garbage truck, or cleaning up after someone’s mess may sound like a terrible job, they are apparently not the worst jobs out there.

CareerCast.com’s 28th annual Jobs Rated report analyzed 200 different jobs, looking at things like environment (emotional, physical and hours worked), income (growth potential and salary) and outlook, along with 11 stress factors to come up with their list of the best and worst gigs folks could have.

So, what job is actually the worst? Well, for a third year in a row, newspaper reporter earned the “honor” of least desirable job, thanks to its annual median salary of just over $36,000 and a negative 9% growth through 2024. Other least desirable jobs include Logger, broadcaster, disc jockey (HEY! that's my job! It's not THAT bad), enlisted military, retail sales, advertising sales, taxi driver, and firefighter.

As for the most desirable gigs, a data scientist came out on top, due to its annual median salary of just over $128,000 and a more than 16% growth outlook through 2024. Other desirable jobs include: statistician, information security analyst, audiologist, diagnostic medical sonographer and mathematician.
