UPDATE: Power was restored just after 6 pm on Saturday for most customers.
Power has gone out to most of downtown Grand Rapids and the northwest side of the city. Approximately 7,400 customers are without power, including WFGR.
A homeless couple in Jackson, MI decided it would be a great idea to make the Beast with Two Backs in front of the Consumers Energy headquarters building this morning. Maybe they were just proposing a new energy source? Friction?

Spring is always a busy time of year for around-the-house projects and updates. Michigan residents have added incentive to make some changes as Consumers Energy is offering customers $15 - $50 for old appliances.
It's kind of hard to imagine hot Michigan summers and air conditioning right now, but it's worth thinking about if it can save you money.
Consumers Energy is offering customers $25 and a monthly credit to place a new device on their air conditioners which will make the air conditioner run shorter cycles.
Grand Valley State University, Consumers Energy and Allendale Township installed six temporary lighting towers on 48th Avenue over the weekend. They will continue to work together to install permanent street lights by housing near the Allendale Campus.
