West Michigan has fared better than northern Michigan.

According to WZZM13, the reason the lights went out was because of an equipment failure at the Wealthy Street Substation.

UPDATE: Power was restored just after 6 pm on Saturday for most customers. Power has gone out to most of downtown Grand Rapids and the northwest side of the city. Approximately 7,400 customers are without power, including WFGR.
