The baseball season is quickly coming to an end. The Tigers are right in the thick of the AL Central playoff race. The Whitecaps, like most of minor league baseball, have been done for about a month now. But even though, the Caps and Fifth Third Ballpark keep getting great national press! It was the WFGR Listener Appreciation Party at the Whitecaps game Wednesday! A great time was had by all (an even better time was had by a few!) AND the 'Caps won 3-2! The Tiger that was many fans "Tiger" is hanging it up. The hero of the 2006 American League Championship series Magglio Ordonez is retiring this weekend with a ceremony at Comerica Park. The image of the homer he hit to send the Tigs to the World Series only three years after the team lost 119 games is burned in many Michigan sports fans' memory.

It was a chilly, windy Home Opener for the Whitecaps Monday Night, but the good guys took the first home game 4-0 over Bowling Green! WFGR, Cluck and 5,173 were on hand with our Townsquare Media counterparts to welcome in the 2012 Midwest League season! 70-0 at home this season? I think so!

Not much else is like baseball opening day here in Michigan. I have a couple personal Opening Day stories, but first, I start with the late Ernie Harwell's Ode to Spring. He would always read the Song of Solomon 2:11-12 before the first Spring Training game every year. Even though it's Opening Day, it still is fitting and is part of the lore of Baseball in America.
