It's the "coolest pace to live with the lowest cost of living". That's Kalamazoo!

The online platform PureWow conducted a survey. They cross-referenced data from the Council for Community and Economic Research's Cost of Living Index and came up with Kalamazoo as #1 in the whole country. The study said you can have it all in Kalamazoo like chili cook offs, farmers markets and your visual and performing arts too. The research also stated that the dollar could go farther in Kalamazoo compared to other mitten cities like Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids. Here are the top cities on the list:

  1. Kalamazoo, Mich.
  2. Knoxville, Tenn.
  3. Fayetteville, Ark.
  4. Oklahoma City, Okla.
  5. Savannah, Ga.
  6. Des Moines, Iowa
  7. Green Bay, Wis.
  8. Huntsville, Ala.
  9. Indianapolis, Ind.
  10. Greenville, S.C.

Discover Kalamazoo President & CEO Jane Ghosh told Fox 17,

"It’s the combination of urban and natural. It is a small town with really big downtown attractions. It has so many attractions, so many big town restaurants, and really has so much to offer for a town its size."

City of Kalamazoo Mayor David Anderson attributed the ranking to big city amenities coupled with a small town feel.

My take away...there are other cooler places to live but you just can't afford it!
